President Obama Releases Copy of Long-Form Birth Certificate

We’ve all heard the rumors that President Obama wasn’t born in the United States, and therefore could not remain president. Today, White House officials released copies of Obama’s original long-form birth certificate that states he was born in Hawaii. And where is Hawaii? The United States! That’s right folks, President Barack Hussein Obama is a United States citizen. His father’s home country is Kenya, but President Obama does not share the same birthplace as his father. Obama told reporters that he was “puzzled at the degree to which this story just kept on going.” He also said he would not normally pay heed to such matters, but the short-form birth certificate he released in 2008 didn’t satisfy the “birthers”. So, he felt inclined to release the long-form certificate because the country has bigger issues to worry about. The president also acknowledged that there will be a “segment of people for which, no matter what we put out, this issue will not be put to rest.”
Is Donald Trump one of these people? He has been quoted as saying he’s “very proud” of himself for helping bring about the release of the birth certificate, stating, “I want to look at it, but I hope it’s true so that we can get on to much more important matters.” President Obama finished up the issue with the statement, “We’ve got better stuff to do.”
So, the question is, are you satisfied, or do you still feel more proof is needed?

A “Certification of Live Birth” is a short-form birth certificate. The information included in the document may differ from state to state. A “Certification of Live Birth” from Hawaii will include the name and sex of the person, date of birth, hour of birth, island of birth, county of birth, mother’s maiden name, mother’s race, father’s name, father’s race, date accepted by registrar, a certificate number and seal. The seal may be different depending on the year it was printed.

A “Certificate of Live Birth” is the long-form birth certificate and contains more detailed information, including signatures of doctor(s), witnesses, vital statistics (length and weight), etc.

According to the Department of Hawaiian Homelands:

Birth certificates (Certificates of Live Birth and Certifications of Live Birth) and Certificates of Hawaiian Birth are the primary documents used to determine native Hawaiian qualification.
The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands accepts both Certificates of Live Birth (original birth certificate) and Certifications of Live Birth because they are official government records documenting an individuals birth. The Certificate of Live Birth generally has more information which is useful for genealogical purposes as compared to the Certification of Live Birth which is a computer-generated printout that provides specific details of a person’s birth. Although original birth certificates (Certificates of Live Birth) are preferred for their greater detail, the State Department of Health (DOH) no longer issues Certificates of Live Birth. When a request is made for a copy of a birth certificate, the DOH issues a Certification of Live Birth.

So, a long-form Certificate has additional information on it that that is useful for genealogical purposes. However, both the certificate and the certification are certified government records providing prima facia proof of the information they contain.
